ROLAND OLBETER (Hanover, Germany)
Scenographer and robotic artist. Has been living and working in Barcelona since 1989.
Formally trained as a concert violinist and shipbuilding engineer, he has extensively worked for theater, opera, as well as sound and motion installations.
In 2004 and 2015, he developed and directed the chamber opera “Orlando Furioso” for 5 music robots and soprano with music by Michael Gross, as well as “Gulliver’s Dream,” an automatic machine opera with music by Elena Kats Chernin. Additionally, he designed the thematic pavilion OIKOS for EXPO 2008 in Zaragoza.
Starting in 2005, he initiated a collaboration with Carlus Padrissa (Fura dels Baus), Franc Aleu, and Chu Uroz, leading to a highly distinguished production of contemporary and classical operas performed in cities such as New York, Tokyo, Milan, Vienna, Munich, Paris, and others.
He developed a series of electroacoustic instruments played in conjunction with classical opera and performances in museums and festivals.
Olbeter’s work is supported by the German high-tech company FESTO.
